Another Swap Finished!

Shawnee's new Flirty Apron Swap is just finishing up.  The theme this time?  Polka Dots!  This is what I came up with:

The little extra goodie that we were to send with our aprons was a cookbook.  It could be either a new one or a like-new used book.  I had a hard time picking one, but I think my partner will be pleased with what I decided on:

Of course, after I had made the apron and decided on the cookbook, I came up with another idea for a super cute apron that would have gone perfectly with the cookbook.  Due to time restraints, I wasn't able to make it for the swap, but I'm still planning on bringing this idea to life - and I'll show you when it's done!

Another Apron Swap Finished

Today I made a trip to the post office to send off another flirty apron. The theme this time was "Vintage Linens", and even though it was difficult to get started, I had a lot of fun with this one. I ended up using a cute sheet and made up my own pattern for it. I think it turned out pretty cute!

Along with the apron and a vintage tea towel I found, I included a recipe for something I've been craving today - Runzas! Unfortunately the restaurant is only in Nebraska, with very few exceptions, but here's a recipe for making them (they're also called bierocks):

Runza Recipe
2 pound ground beef
1 large onion , chopped
Salt
Pepper
1 Medium Cabbage, chopped
2 batches of egg dough

Saute onion in a bit of oil until just translucent. Add hamburger and saute until no longer pink. Season with salt and pepper. Drain away the grease, and return to the pan. Cover the mixture with the shredded cabbage and cook until the cabbage is done. Stir occasionally. This could take about 45 minutes or so.

Using an egg-dough recipe, roll small balls of dough thin to make a 5×5 square. Put about 1/2 cup of cabbage mixture in center of square and seal closed. Place seal side down on a parchment lined baking sheet (or a lightly greased sheet).

Bake 20-25 minutes at 350 or until lightly golden brown.

And, if you're ever in a town that has a Runza, definitely stop and try them out! Go here to find their locations.

She's on her way!

I just got back from the Post Office, and sent this lovely lady on her way! I like her so much that I plan on making one for myself, too!

My partner asked for an apron with frills and sparkles. I am absolutely terrible at ruffles, so the plan was to find some cute frilly trim. Once I had the fabrics picked out, I was afraid that a frilly trim would be too much, though. However, I believe this apron sparkles quite a bit without any trim. The red has a pretty shine to it when the light hits it. For the waist band and ties, I used white costume satin. The bottom wedges were created with two fabrics - a silver costume satin underneath a sheer white fabric with snowflakes (and the snowflakes are very sparkly - not that you can tell from this picture, though)!

The pattern is the "Twirl Girl" from A is for Aprons. I have to admit that I was not particularly fond of this pattern until my partner from the last FAS sent me her beautiful creation using this pattern!

Flying High

Sorry about skipping the Weekend Wisdom this week - I've been way too busy! Thursday, I was gone all day taking my uncle to the airport in Lincoln. We got home just in time for Taylor's baseball practice, then my nephew's game. Friday, we took the Cub Scouts camping, but that trip was cut short by a storm (more about that later). Saturday, was a long but fun and exciting day.

I have been anxiously awaiting my apron from my very first swap ever. I decided to run by the post office before going to my parents' house (we had a surprise in store for the boys). I opened our box, and inside was a key to one of the larger boxes. When I opened the second box and saw a package with my name on it, I was so excited! I was barely inside the car before I had that package ripped open with my new apron! I saw this beautiful creation, and tears came to my eyes. It was like Adrianne was inside my head when she picked the fabrics and pattern. (I just realized that she posted pics of the fabric she picked on her blog on my 30th birthday!) It's impossible for me to explain how perfect this apron is for me - I LOVE it! I had my mom model it so I could get some pictures. Once I was done taking the pictures, I thought I was going to have to wrestle her for it - she loves it just as much as I do! Adrianne also made some beautiful coasters, barrettes, and the cutest pin cushion for me.

My parents and I took Taylor and Landon to the American Barnstormers Tour that was in Hastings. We had so much fun looking at all those planes from the 1920's and 1930's, and listening to the wonderful music from that era. The pilots and the others who were running it were even dressed up in the fashions, too. The highlight, though, was when we decided to take the boys up in one of the planes. We rode the 1929 D-25, which was perfect for John Deere-loving Landon since this plane was green and yellow! I'll post pictures from our adventure in a day or two. It's time to head to the in-laws' for an afternoon BBQ and a baseball game!
